“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet,” were the words uttered by Shakespeare’s fictional character Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Like the tragic play By Any Other Name takes the listener on a journey of highs and spirals of lows much like the initial meeting and untimely deaths of the main characters. All kinds of things can be interpreted differently. For her first exhibition, L’nique Noel asked artists to interpret flowers in a figurative, literal, and or symbolic manner. The inspiration for the exhibit is Minnie Riperton’s 1970 album, Come To My Garden. Noel felt that the exhibition was not complete without a musical element in the stylings of Riperton. As the album was being created Noel partially strayed away from the swelling vocals, elegance, warmth, sensuality, and love that Riperton evokes in her own album. By Any Other Name, was transformed by Noel’s own musical taste including the stylings of Kanye West, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane while maintaining Riperton’s musical stylings as an anchor for this album. An assortment of different sounds including the ambiance of nature, jazz, and angelic melodies evoke different moods to add to the overall atmosphere of the exhibition
